About the Programme

The Basic Fire Fighter Course (BFFC) is a foundational professional training programme for entry-level fire service personnel, jointly offered by Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU) — a Central University under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, GoI — and GMR Aero Academy (GMRAA), an ICAO-recognised Regional Training Centre of Excellence.

The programme provides theoretical knowledge, physical conditioning, rescue operations training, aircraft rescue and firefighting techniques, hazardous material handling, and practical exposure to emergency response systems in aviation and industrial environments.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, trainees will be able to:

Understand fundamentals of fire science, hydraulics and electricity
Operate firefighting equipment including hoses, pumps, extinguishers and breathing apparatus
Demonstrate firefighting drills, rescue operations and casualty handling
Understand airport emergency systems and ICAO regulations
Handle aircraft fire hazards, structural fires and industrial emergencies
Apply emergency response procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Understand HAZMAT response procedures
Perform tactical and strategic rescue and firefighting operations
Develop discipline, physical endurance and operational readiness

Course Content

Optional ICAO STP Certification Courses available — subject to applicable additional charges.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • 10+2 / Intermediate or equivalent from a recognised Board
  • Candidates awaiting Class XII results may also apply (proof required before commencement)
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand Hindi and English

Age Limit

Between 18 to 24 years as on the last date of application.

Driving License

  • Valid LMV Driving License or valid LMV Learner's License required
  • Permanent LMV License must be obtained before course commencement if only Learner's License held

Selection Process

Step 1 — Application Scrutiny

All submitted applications checked for completeness, eligibility and document validity.

Step 2 — Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Physical fitness and efficiency tested as per prescribed standards for fire service candidates.

Step 3 — Medical Examination

Medical fitness examination by qualified physicians per the prescribed standards.

Personal interaction / interview conducted if required by the selection committee.

The programme is fully residential. Boarding, lodging, physical training facilities and practical training infrastructure provided at RGNAU Campus, Fursatganj, Amethi (U.P.). ARFF exposure and OJT also conducted at IGRUA facilities.
